Northern Europe’s security environment is changing due to Russia’s war against Ukraine and uncertainty over transatlantic engagement. Stronger Nordic-Baltic cooperation could enhance collective defence, while ensuring cohesion, resilience and effective burden-sharing across the defence alliance.

Northern Europe is becoming increasingly central to NATO’s deterrence and defence posture. This seminar brings together representatives from NATO, the defence sector and the security policy community to discuss how regional cooperation can strengthen collective defence and resilience.

The discussion will explore how cooperation across defence, security, industry, innovation and civil preparedness can support NATO’s strategic objectives in the Nordic-Baltic region. Particular attention will be given to partnerships with Ukraine and other key partners, and their contribution to European and transatlantic security.

The seminar will also address challenges linked to deeper integration, including risks of fragmentation, duplication and political divergence. Participants will discuss how these risks can be managed while enhancing deterrence, defence capabilities and societal resilience. The event concludes with audience questions.
